As part of the emerging Jagiellinian University, the magnificent Gothic structure of the Collegium Juridicum was built in the early part of the 15th Century to house the academy´s law department. Situated in Jagiellonska Street, one of the oldest in Krakow, the charming building is complimented by the beautiful Renaissance courtyard which feature arcades and sculptures by the contemporary Polish artist Igor Mitoraj. The University has attracted some distinguished alumni which include Polish intellectuals and well known political and religious figures including Nicolaus Copernicus and Pope John Paul II. To get the most from your visit to the Jagiellonian University guided tours for a nominal fee are recommended as you will be introduced to the fascinating history of the academy and will find the details of architecture and places to see of more interest.
