Royal Wawel Castle
Address: Podzamcze
Area: Old Town
Type: Landmarks/Monuments
Rating: 4.25
Archaeological evidence unearthed on the hill where the Royal Wawel Castle stands indicates that humans were living in what became Krakow some fifty thousand years ago.
The castle came much later, erected in the 16th Century as a stately residence which would become a prototype for other castles across central and Eastern Europe.
It´s immense arcaded courtyard was ideal for hosting tournaments and various court events.
Today, it is home to the remarkable National Art Collection which boasts an outstanding collection of Italian paintings together with Misnia porcelain and silver tableware from the Saxon dynasty.
Visitors also get the chance to glimpse the crown treasury and armoury of the Polish coronation insignia together with the crown jewels of the Republic, many of which date back to the 14th Century.

A very interesting place to see. It's always good to explore, where royals used to live :) And a must do if you come to visit Cracow!
