There has been a Philharmonic orchestra in Krakow since the 18th Century, but the professional outfit you find today was not established until 1909.
Situated in the Philharminic Hall near the popular Plany Park, Krakow´s orchestra is counted amongst the best in Poland though the hall is also used by visiting Philharmonic orchestras from around the world as well.
Despite hosting three concerts a week, tickets are notoriously difficult to get for a concert so if you intend to catch a performance it advisable to book well in advance to save disappointment.
The repertoires vary from chamber music to fully-blown symphonic concerts and are organized in categories such as “Big Events,” “Children´s Concerts,” and “Wawel Classics,” which take place in Wawel Castle. Ticket prices cost between 12 zloty and 40 zloty.
