Founded in 1798, Krakow´s Stary theatre is the oldest in Poland. Some of the country´s most talented directors and actors have made their mark in this theatre over the years and it has maintained its leading role as one of the most prestigious theatres in Eastern Europe.
Boasting a spectacular art nouveau facade the architecture alone is appealing to theatre lovers and the plush interior decorated with stucco balustrades make the perfect setting to stage any play, whether contemporary or classic. The Stary Theatre has a solid reputation of staging excellent productions and with a small museum in the basement there is more appeal to theatre-lovers.
There is also a cafe in the cellar which is frequented by some of Krakow´s contemporary thespians and artists.
