Basic Information about Krakow
Krakow, the city of almost 800 thousand people, the pearl of medieval urban planning, with numerous beautiful churches and its own dragon. A city of many joys, the cultural capital of Poland and the birth- or living-place of many famous Poles. If you aren't acquainted with the city yet, and need some basic Krakow information, this is the best place to start.

More and more Polish people speak English, so communication is less and less of a problem. In this article you will find information about using more sophisticated means of communication available in Krakow – the Internet, phones and post offices.

The 1999 administrative reform wiped out the 49 provinces – a remainder of the communist times – to form 16 strong regions, able to compete with similar districts of the EU. As the country's second-biggest city, Krakow naturally became the capital of one of the provinces. In this section you will find out more on how Krakow is governed and where you can find the people who have the power.
With several universities, including Poland's oldest and still best – the Jagiellonian University – Krakow is the best place to study in Poland. At least that's what the over 150 thousand Krakow students think. Each year May is the month the Polish students traditionally organize the great feast of Juwenalia – and those in Krakow are probably the most spectacular in the country.
