Parking in Krakow

Parking around the Krakow Old Town may be a frustrating experience. Tens of little, one way roads, with signs informing you about it just a bit too late, and the police just waiting for your slightest mistake to punish you for it (without much thought that they'd do a better job just helping with parking in Krakow).

The best way to deal with the problem would be to leave your car in a parking lot outside Krakow, and get into a cozy, air-conditioned bus that would take you (for free) straight to all the Krakow marvels. Well, that's not going to happen: for a few years the Krakow authorities have been wondering where and for whose money to build such a giant parking lot.

Other projects that are to help with the problem of Krakow Parking are underground parking lots – the first one is planned to be open around 2009, so hopefully this will mean Parking in Krakow made easy.

Back to earth, though. Read below to find some basic information about parking in the Krakow Old Town.

Parking Zones in the Krakow Old Town

Parking Zone 1 – (covering the Main Square along with the biggest streets that start there, including Szewska, Slawkowska, Florianska, Grodzka, as well as Kanonicza and Senacka) – area restricted to pedestrians and bikers.

Parking Zone 2 – (covering the rest of the Old Town area inside the Planty Park, with parts of Karmelicka and Dluga Streets) – limited access, parking only in special zones, max speed – 20 km/h.

Parking Zone 3 – (the rest of the city center) – parking for a maximum period of 2 hours, you must buy a ticket, either in a machine or a newspaper stand.
