Your trip to Krakow is not complete without a decent into the Salt Mines

A tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mine is a truly  unique experience. The mine is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is located a short distance from Krakow's center (see our map below, you may need to zoom out). The most cost effective and convenient way to visit the mine is on a guided tour. Our buses leave daily from the centre of Krakow all year round and twice daily in the tourist high season.

The Wieliczka Salt mine is one of the worlds oldest salt mines and although active mining was stopped in 2007, it still continues to attract over 1 million tourists per year. The mine itself reaches a depth of 327 meters and is over 300 kilometer long. During World War Two the mine was used by the Nazis for war related production and storage.  

The tour walks visitors through the mine – approx 3km – passing through some twenty chambers, containing statues and sculptures carved from rock salt (some by the original miners and some by today’s contemporary artists), past an underground lake and into, perhaps the most impressive chamber of all, an undergroud ‘Catholic Cathedral' carved from salt and stone.

1 October – 31 March – daily – pick-up time: 3:45 p.m.

1 April – 31 May – twice a day - pick-up time: 8:30 a.m.and 4:00 p.m.

1 June - 30 Sept – twice a day - pick-up time: 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m

How to Pay: Guests can pay the bus driver as they are picked up from their accommodation.
