| PKP Intercity’s Janusz Malinowski has announced that in three years time the trains will connect Warsaw Katowice, Kraków and Gdynia. |
PKP Intercity have recently announced that they have placed 20 very fast 'Pendolino' trains on order, which have the capacity to travel up 220km/hour along Poland's rail network. The contract is reported to be worth some 400million Euro and was signed with Alstrom a French conglomerate company.
Although the trains do have a top speed of in excess of 240km/hour, the Polish train tracks are not currently at the level that would allow trains to travel at this speed. The purchase of these trains means that travel times between Warsaw and Krakow will be cut considerably. Currently it take approx three hours to travel from the capital to Krakow, with implementation of the very fast trains this time will be cut by more than an hour resulting in a two train journey between, Warsaw and Krakow.
