The Sukiennice (cloth hall) is not only an historical monument, it’s a national landmark and holds key works from the National Museum Gallery, including Poland’s most precious pieces of 19th century art and sculpture.

The key objectives in the restoration project were: to ensure the conservation of the building whilst upgrading public works, adapting the historical facility for higher accessibility and public appeal and ensuring proper conditions for the storage and display of works of art. The building has been fully  and upgraded, with new electric, lighting and air conditioning systems, and also facilities for the disabled. The official opening date is July 2010.

- The aim of the whole project is to create a modern structure, matching the needs of contemporary art consumer and tourist, yet fully reflecting the 19th century spirit of the art pieces presented within – says Zofia Golubiew, director of National Museum in Krakow. – A real novelty will no doubt be the 1st floor terraces never before opened to public – reveals Golubiew.
