After long lasting, heavy rains Krakow and the whole area of Malopolska district became endangered with high water. The first to become damaged were areas east and south off Krakow in the vicinity of Bochnia town, where many people have lost all their posessions.

Today the flood wave hit Krakow and paralyzed life in the city, although dams witheld the impact of water. All firemen and soldiers have been engaged in reinforcing dams surrounding the city center and saving people from undercut houses. Though one of city bridges has been closed, Krakow authorities claim that the situation is under control. Wisla river has broken a historical 1997 flood level of 907 cm and can hardly pass under the street level. Zlocień housing estate in the east part of Krakow has been cut off totally, as main access road has been covered with water and rescue units had to distribute water and food from an amhibian.

Latest reports inform that the flood wave is to withdraw tomorrow. If dams hold until expected clearing up on Friday, the city will be saved.
