Polish consortium will be developing Clean Coal Energy, as Poland’s coal resources are one of the largest in Europe. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology has announced its long awaited verdict in mid December.
- For an average Pole this can mean cheaper energy and less pollution combined with its acquiring from fossil fuel. The state will economize due to lesser fees for carbon dioxide emission – said Dariusz Lubera, a chairman of Tauron SA, Polish energy supplier.
Due to EIT funds Poland will be able to transfer technology on a major scale. Cooperating with European participants, such as Germany, France, Sweden, Spain and the Netherlands will allow Polish universities and companies exchange know-how and technologies with the potentates.
- For Polish science this is a leap not by one step, but for two at once – stresses Antoni Tajduś, the rector of AGH, the coordinatin university for Poland. – In case of clean coal energy we mean totally new technologies, such as coal-nuclear fusion – says Tajduś.
The task of the InnoEnergy Knowledge and Innovation Community is to develop ways of cheaper and more ecological obtaining energy from the already existing sources, as well as obtaining new renewable energy sources.
The CCPoland Plus consortium science members are: Mining and Metallurgy University in Krakow (AGH), the Jagiellonian University, Silesia Technology University, Silesia University, Wroclaw Technology University, Head Mining Institute and the Coal Chemical Processing Institute. Four partner companies related to energy management will support research with at least 300 thousand euro a year.
- This is a breakthrough for Polish science, a great change in thinking. Until now in Poland there was hardly any support from business to science, as it’s done in the US – stresses Karol Musioł, the rector of the Jagiellonian University. – In a Collocation Center business can influence the research direction, and the scientists are sure that there will be money and market for the product – adds Musioł.
