Mother's Day

Mother's Day is quite a specific day, as there are only three months in the year when it isn't celebrated somewhere around the world. Why should a Krakow Tourist care when it is celebrated in Poland? Apart from the obvious ones (why not celebrate a second Mother's Day with your own mother, or pretend that you've blended into Polish culture so much that you purposefully forgot to give her a present on your 'home' Mother's Day) there might be a Polish mother you might not know about...

The Mother's Day's Date

Remembering the date of Polish Mother's Day is much easier than in other countries ('third Thursday after the second Wednesday after Easter' kind of stuff), as every year it falls on May 26th, and there are absolutely no exceptions. This is another reason why Poland is special: no other country celebrates Mother's Day on this date.

Gifts on Mother's Day

Although it's most important to remember the date itself, and a simple “Happy Mother's Day” is enough, a flower or a simple gift certainly won't hurt. Why do you need this information? Well, a mother-in-law is also a mother – and what about a mother-in-law-to-be or a possible-mother-in-law?

Mother's Day vs Father's Day

While Mother's Day is widely celebrated, popular and highly commercialized, Father's Day seems a little bit left behind. It is probable that only a minority of Poles actually know its date. So here it is: Father's Day in Poland is about a month later than Mother's Day, on June 23rd.
