Coke Live Music Festival in Krakow

The Coke Live Festival (or the Coke Live Music Festival) is Krakow's answer to Gdynia's Heineken Open'er Festival or Wroclaw's Era Nowe Horyzonty. Combining the splendor of the Polish and international pop stars with the uncompromising energy of alternative rock bands, the Krakow Coke Live Music Festival is becoming an important date for any music fan.

The Krakow inhabitants as well as tourists had often complained that such a popular city with so many possibilities hadn't had its own big music festival – or even a place to organize concerts of the biggest stars. Before Coke Live Music Festival was conceived, most musically important events in the region took place in Katowice – either the Spodek or the Silesian Stadium.

The first Coke Live Music Festival was somewhat of a breakthrough, and showed, that even though Krakow lacks a real concert hall, there are places where big music events can be organized.

Coke Live Festival – The Music

The events of the Coke Live Festival take place on three stages, the Main Stage, the Coke Stage and the Burn Stage. The artists usually include one or two international pop stars, a few rock bands from Poland and abroad, and the line-up is completed with smaller artists of different genres. The first Coke Live Music Festival in 2006 included performances of Jay-Z and Shaggy, a year later the stars were Rihanna, Faithless and Akon. The 2008 Coke Live Music Festival was the largest so far and featured Timbaland, Missy Eliott, The Prodigy, Sean Paul as well as the Kaiser Chiefs.

Coke Live Festival – the Venue and Dates

The Coke Live Music Festival takes place in late August - “the perfect way to end your summer holidays” as the organizers say – and the 2009 edition will be no different, taking place between August 20th and 22nd. The Coke Festival is organized on the airfield near the Krakow Aviation Museum in Nowa Huta (not to be confounded with the Krakow Airport in Balice).
